Sokoban: from controls to your first round

Bring your attention to one round of Sokoban. Push every crate onto a target. Look at what changes after your first action. Compare the starting position with the example in the Guide. Use the example below to understand a decision.

Push two crates onto their targets in compact 7×7 rooms. The starting layouts can be solved; an unhelpful push may still trap a crate.

A small practice goal

Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention. Make the next step deliberately.

Your objective

Push every crate onto a target. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Notice how the game responds to your input.

Start here and follow along

  1. Move through empty floor.
  2. Push one crate into empty space.
  3. Never pull or push two at once.
  4. Undo a deadlock and continue.

The controls to know

Arrow keys or direction buttons. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. A new-round button replaces the current round.

A closer look at one example

A crate in a non-target corner cannot be recovered by pulling. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Keep the game’s format in mind.

A common point of confusion

Consider the player’s access behind crates. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Compare the worked example with your own position. Use the reasoning, not an answer copied from a different board.
