Word Search: rules and examples

Read the aim of Word Search, then make your first move. Find every listed word in a 10×10 grid. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Check the rule that explains your first action. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

Each board contains eight target words from the included English word list.

A focus for your next round

Before your first action, say what you are trying to achieve. Then compare the result with the goal. Keep the objective visible.

What you are aiming for

Find every listed word in a 10×10 grid. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Take a moment to understand the current position.

Step by step

  1. Select the first and last letter of a straight word.
  2. Words can run horizontally, vertically or diagonally, in either direction.
  3. Find all eight targets.
  4. New puzzle shuffles again.

Getting comfortable with the controls

Tap or click endpoints. A careful first action helps you become familiar with the layout. Use the visible help when you are unsure of the next input.

One way to understand the rules

Selecting the endpoints in reverse order also finds the same word. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Verify the rule before continuing.

Pay attention to this rule

Words cannot turn corners. Take a moment to reassess the position before continuing. Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention.
